6 January 2013

We hope everyone had a great Holiday Season and a wonderful start to the New Year.  We hope you had a great 2012 and we hope your 2013 will be even better.  The BOTWF had a busy year with a total of 28 presentations and 14 guided field trips.  We also went on several butterfly photography expeditions and obtained several thousand images.  One of Bryan’s goals was to obtain more photos of both immature butterflies and larval food sources which he achieved in great abundance.  That goal will be carried on into 2013 and beyond.

We’ve been hard at work and the 2013 calendar is now loaded.  Several presentations have already been confirmed including one coming up on Friday, 11 January, for the Cleveland County Master Gardener Association and will be held at the Cleveland County Extension Service OSU Building, Room C, 601 East Robinson, Norman, Ok 73071, at 1000.  Browse through the rest of the calendar to see what we have scheduled and please keep checking because we are constantly adding more events.

For the third year in a row, Bryan has also selected his best shots from the last butterfly season.  Click to see his 10 favorite photos of 2012.  The previous years of both the News (2010, 2011) and Bryan’s favorite photos (2010, 2011) have been archived and links will be maintained at the top of this page.

The BOTWF is also proud to announce the addition of a wonderful consultant of Oklahoma lepidoptera, Professor John M. Nelson of Oral Roberts University.  His advice has been invaluable and we are proud to have him onboard.

And finally, another Oklahoma Gardening clip, featuring Bryan discussing butterfly camouflage and mimicry has been added below.

We’re still busy coordinating and planning butterfly presentations for 2013.  A short-notice one just got confirmed for Thursday, 24 January, for the annual joint meeting of the Cleveland County Audubon Society and the Red Earth Group of the Sierra Club.  The event will take place at the  Norman Depot, located in Norman, Oklahoma.  Show up for snacks at 1900 and the presentation starts at 1930.  It is free and open to the public.

A couple weeks ago, Bryan gave a very well received presentation for the Cleveland County Master Gardeners Association.  Like he always says, it was nice to be around like-minded and enthusiastic people.
